Rabbi Transition at Bet Haverim
The twelve members of the CBH Rabbi Search Committee (RSC) began our weekly meetings on June 28th. All of us are deeply honored and humbled by the responsibility that has been entrusted in us. During our initial meeting we discussed and explored the importance of recognizing implicit and explicit biases in our conceptualization of a rabbi in order to avoid making incorrect assumptions and to assess each potential candidate in a fair manner. Additionally, we discussed the process and timeline for our rabbi search.
On July 19th, the CBH Rabbinic Process Team formally submitted an application to the Central Conference of American Rabbi’s (CCAR) to initiate the rabbi search process. The RSC will be solely working through CCAR in our search for a new rabbi. CCAR will post the rabbi opening on their website within the next few weeks, and they will forward resumes and cover letters of experienced rabbis to the RSC as those applications are received over the next few months. The RSC plans to conduct interviews with select applicants in October, November and December (depending on the number and the timing of applications we receive) and to bring the finalists to Davis to meet with the CBH community in December 2021/January 2022. The RSC hopes to make a recommendation to the Board on the final candidates in January 2022. These dates are subject to change.
The RSC recently formed a subcommittee to develop potential criteria to be used in evaluating candidates. The full RSC reviewed and refined these criteria as a whole committee at its July 19th meeting.
