Social Justice Committee seeks participants

WE NEED YOU!!!!

Dear CBH Partners,

The Social Justice Committee (SJC) aka Team Tikkun Olam is off to a zooming start this year.  We have been brainstorming and clarifying our priority areas, and we hope there is something on the list that speaks to you!

Each interest area and sub-committee will welcome your energy.  The small teams listed below have both short-term and longer-term projects where your skills and concerns can be put to  practical use.  Now is a great time to get have an impact on a wide range of local concerns.  Contact us and ask how you can get involved.

We have new subcommittees that can offer you a place to collaborate if you are interested in volunteering in one of our specific high-priority areas.  There are also our monthly SJC meetings which are a great way of meeting other passionate social justice advocates, finding out all of the upcoming opportunities, and bringing opportunities to the congregation if you already collaborate with a group that needs some support.

We surveyed all of those currently participating in Social Justice Committee meetings, and found that our top areas of interest are:

  • Racial Justice including Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at CBH
  • Antisemitism and Anti-Zionism
  • Homelessness and Affordable Housing in our community
  • Immigrant Justice and direct service to the undocumented
  • Environmental Justice
  • Ethnic studies curriculum in DJUSD
  • Criminal Justice Equity in Davis and Yolo
  • Jewish Core Values
  • Participation in a multifaith social justice action coalition ( Yolo Interfaith Social Justice Network)

As a result of this discussion, we  have already created two subcommittees, one for Antisemitism  and one for Racial Justice and seven interest areas with a ‘point person’.   No prior experience necessary to be involved in any of the committee work.
