Some people say that the most important book in the Jewish library, besides the Torah, is the Siddur- the Jewish prayer book. Inside the Siddur are thousands of years of Jewish wisdom compiled in a way that helps us awaken to the holiness in our everyday lives. The siddur is thick and dense. Without knowing what you are looking at or what to look for, it’s easy to get lost inside the maze of its pages. During this 5-week spring course we will be taking a deep dive into the most essential parts of the Siddur. We will explore the philosophy, theology, development, and purpose of these prayers in order to help us start to unlock the treasures of one of the fundamental parts of the Jewish Tradition.
