Talmud On Tap! A Handcrafted Tour of Ancient Rabbinic Teachings with Rabbi Greg

Thursdays, August 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31, 2017, 5:00 p.m., The Dock at Sudwerk, 2001 2nd Street, Davis

Understand what the Talmud is and how its words can still resonate with relevance in our own lives today—while also enjoying the fine handcrafted brews at The Dock at Sudwerk.  This is a five week series, Thursday, August 3 - Thursday, August 31.

The book “Swimming in The Sea of Talmud,” by Michael Katz and Gershon Schwartz, will be the primary guide for a journey through the deep waters of Talmud. The authors select key passages to dip into, revealing the context of the teachings and helping you to discover your own personal understandings of these ancient words. The sea of Talmud is vast and can be daunting when you are swimming in it alone.  But, these same waters become inviting and exciting when explored together.

As the famous Rabbi Hillel of the Talmud taught when asked to teach the whole Torah while standing on one foot: “What is hateful to you don’t do to others. All the rest is commentary now go and learn!” So, come on in! The waters are warm. Take your learning to new depths and swim your way through the Talmudic seas this summer.

Bring your favorite chips and dips or other snacks to share at the gatherings and join in one or all of the dates.  Study materials will be provided at each session.  Please RSVP to the CBH office at office@bethaverim.org or 530-758-0842.
