Luther and the Jews: Exploring our History Together in Dialogue and Faith

Adult class to explore the shared history of Lutheran and Jewish faith traditions. Led by Pastor Dan Smith and Rabbi Greg Wolfe, meeting both at Congregation Bet Haverim and Lutheran Church of the Incarnation.

In November and early December, Congregation Bet Haverim and Lutheran Church of the Incarnation will hold a class together to explore the shared history of our two faith traditions. Led by Pastor Dan Smith and Rabbi Greg Wolfe, this class will include understanding the tensions and conflict surrounding Martin Luther’s writings about the Jews of his day and the subsequent history of Lutheranism and Judaism.

While we will learn about our histories, this class, ultimately, is about meeting as individuals with living stories and not just as people who represent different religions. We want to get to know one another as human beings and also people who are a part of rich and dynamic faith traditions. This will include looking at our perceptions of ourselves and the other; creating opportunities to learn and grow together. We plan to allow the time and space, over this series of encounters, to foster dialogue and understanding so that these deeper relationships can begin to form.

Please use this form by November 6th to let us know you will be participating.
