Jews in the Fascist Period in Italy

Register below for a presentation by Rabbi Leigh Lerner on Thursday, November 11, at 6:45 p.m.

This will be a Zoom-only event. Please contact Marcia Freedman if you have questions.

We’ll begin the story immediately after the First World War and carry through to just after the end of the Second World War. Were Jews involved with Mussolini? Why did the Racist Laws of 1938 catch the Jewish community by surprise? What happened during the war and shortly thereafter?

Author and activist Rabbi Leigh Lerner will present and take questions (from the Eastern time zone, hence our slightly early start). After 23 years of leadership at Temple Emanu-El-Beth Sholom in Montreal, Rabbi Lerner became Rabbi Emeritus in 2012. Since then he has served as a volunteer rabbi to Shir Hadash Firenze and other congregations, helping to establish Reform Judaism in Florence, Milan, and Rome, where he continues to teach conversion classes online and in Italian. He is author of The Mossad Messiah: a novel of Israel.

Sponsored by the Adult Education Committee.
