Teen Programs: Keshet, Confirmation, Youth Group and Madrichim

A Home for 8th - 12th Graders at Bet Haverim

Teen engagement is a high priority at Congregation Bet Haverim.  We have almost forty teens still involved in a variety of offerings including our DRTY youth group, Keshet and Confirmation classes and our Madrichim program.  The strength of these programs is exciting and the quality of our teens is outstanding.

Keshet, Confirmation Classes

Keshet (for students in eighth & ninth grade) as well as Confirmation (for students in tenth grade) continue the opportunity for Jewish learning.  These classes meet on Sunday evenings from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.  This year both Keshet and Confirmation will introduce new curriculum materials and pedagogical approaches in order to bring our teens the most engaging and relevant learning experiences.  Our teen curriculum presents Jewish values, Torah study, current events from a Jewish perspective and tough questions that Jews ask.  Units on Israel, the Holocaust and Jewish leadership are also included.

New this year will be Teen Space Time, including dinner, offered each time these classes meet from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.  Our Teen Space presents our post b'nai mitzah students a dedicated space with couches, bean bag chairs and a foosball table to relax, hang with their friends and remain connected to our Jewish community.  In addition, each month our teens will participate in a Teen Tikkun Olam experience bringing Jewish values and social action to life.  These experiences will generally be a weekend experience or may be connected to a Jewish holiday celebration.

Noah Bennett will return for his fourth year as our Keshet Teacher.  Noah attended Jewish day school from elementary through high school, was selected to be a Diller Teen Fellow, and brings and outstanding level of Jewish knowledge and passion to his teaching.  Noah has had multiple experiences in Israel, worked at Camp Newman, and also teaches our Seventh Grade Religious School Class.  Noah will graduate from UC Davis this spring.  You may contact Noah at for more information.

Rabbi Greg Wolfe is our Confirmation Seminar Teacher.  Confirmation offers our teens in tenth grade a unique experience to study with Rabbi Greg and learn Judaism in a more sophisticated and personal experience.  Last year, our Confirmation students enjoyed a Jewish San Francisco day trip; we are excited to repeat that experience and to continue exploring additional Jewish travel opportunities for our teens. You may contact Rabbi Greg at for more information.

Madrichim Program

Beginning in eighth grade, CBH teens are eligible to serve in our Madrichim Program, working on Sunday during Religious School or Wednesday during Hebrew School.  Madrichim serve as teaching assistants in the classroom and may support our schools in other capacities.  This opportunity allows our teens to increase their self-confidence, strengthen their Jewish values, serve as role models for our younger children, and begin to learn practical teaching skills.  Madrichim are required to participate in a series of leadership training sessions.  For more information about serving as a madrich (male) or madricha (female), please review our Madrichim Introductory Letter and Application

Kristi Link-Crosier is our Madrichim Coordinator.  Kristi brings an abundance of skills and experience in working with teens and has been actively involved in the Davis Jewish community since her days at UC Davis as both an undergraduate and law school student.  At CBH, Kristi serves on several committees and is also the teacher for our Kindergarten & First Grade Religious School Class.  Kristi is very excited to work with our teens and to support them in continuing their own Jewish education, instilling a love of Judaism, and guiding them to inspire Jewish learning in younger children.  You may contact Kristi at . for more information.

DRTY (Davis Reform Temple Youth) Group

DRTY is our youth group program at CBH that creates a community and social network for our teens from eighth through twelfth grade.  Our DRTY chapter is led by an elected board of teens who meet monthly to develop social programs and strengthen outreach to our teen community.  Members of DRTY are also invited to participate in NOAR events with Jewish teens from other synagogues in the greater Sacramento area.  In addition, we are proud to have a strong relationship with NFTY, the national Jewish youth movement associated with Reform Judaism, and to be actively involved in regional events.

Please click here to view the DRTY 5780 Board Handbook for the coming year.

Naomi Weizman is our DRTY Teen Engagement Coordinator.  Naomi is a recent graduate of UC Davis with an undergraduate degree in History as well as a double minor in Professional Writing as well as Latin American and Hemispheric Studies.  Naomi grew up in Santa Cruz and was actively involved in her Reform synagogue, youth group, and NFTY.  Following her graduation from high school, Naomi worked as an educator and youth group advisor at Temple Beth El and Congregation Bet Haverim.  Naomi will also be teaching in our Hebrew School and Religious School.  You may contact Naomi at for more information.

Teen Space

The congregation raised funds to launch a dedicated "hang-out" space for CBH teens, which debuted in January 2018.  Teens are welcome to gather at scheduled times to meet friends, play games, snack and "chill."  Teen Space will be available during Family First Friday Shabbats
