Gan Haverim Preschool Teachers

Part-time and full-time

The Gan Haverim program offers a play-based philosophy to children in mixed age groups, two years through entering Kindergarten.  The preschool is known for, and strives to offer, a kind, loving and welcoming environment for children and families.

Applicants should have, or be working toward, the 12 core ECE/HD units required by licensing for a qualified preschool teacher.  Experience with or exposure to play-based, emergent or Reggio Emilia philosophy is required.  Knowledge of Jewish life is not required, but an openness to learning about Jewish life is mandatory.

The ideal Gan Haverim teacher brings a passion for the possibilities of teaching children and creating powerful environments to support learning, a commitment to playfulness, gentle disciplinary techniques and a willingness to provide children with exploration opportunities.  An interest in expanding expertise in the Early Childhood Education field through reading articles and/or attendance at conferences and workshops also is desirable.

Job duties and tasks include:

  • Plan and implement developmentally-appropriate activities using a play-based approach.
  • Learn about Jewish holidays in order to share information with the children and/or families.
  • Maintain ongoing communications with parents through daily interactions, weekly notes and monthly newsletters, as needed.
  • Keep accurate records of the children's attendance, unusual incident reports, medication for children, allergies and sign-in/out sheets for parents.
  • Coordinate daily responsibilities with other teaching staff.
  • Document children's interactions and play through anecdotal notes or photographs on a regular basis.
  • Maintain a conducive learning environment for children.
  • Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of each child.
  • Request and inventory classroom materials and supplies.
  • Break down and set up of classroom furniture and environment.
  • Demonstrate acceptance, respect and compassion towards all children and families.
  • Other duties as assigned.
